  1. Hi Mohammad - You raise many important issues in this thesis that I see resonating in "Back to the Land." For example, the issue of declining family life and the rapid spread of global networks/businesses has absolutely changed the lifestyles that Americans lead. I also especially like the nice phrase "the beauty of the past and the need of the present."

However, I believe you are on the wrong track here because you seem to be writing an essay about "bad food habits" instead of writing an essay about Kalman's writing. In your working thesis, I don't see a mention of the author (Maira Kalman) or the text you are interpreting ("Back to the Land"). Your goal in this interpretive essay is to tell outside readers what an author is saying and also HOW an author composes a text to reach a particular audience in a certain context (or moment in history). You are not writing about the author's topic or subject matter. So, do not write an essay about a "fast growing world" or "family relationships" etc. Instead, discuss/analyze/interpret the rhetorical strategies Kalman uses in her essay. You want to tell me how she writes and why.

It may help to review the paper guidelines - http://courses.rachaelsullivan.com/fall2011-online/assignments/assignment-2-3/. Also, in the DK Handbook on page 93, there is a sample essay in which the student is explaining how the book cover accomplishes a purpose -- the student is interpreting the book cover. If you look again at the guidelines for assignment 2-2, I give you some examples of what your working thesis could be. In all of these examples, I mention the author's name, the text's title, or both.

Let me know what questions you have! Otherwise I'll look forward to reading your draft. :)
